We are running a four-month trial to see if a yellow strip above the windscreen improves the visibility of an incoming bus. The purpose of this strip is to assist people waiting for a metro bus to identify that it is an approaching bus. This is not about identifying the route number.
Background
The Blind and Low Vision community have provided feedback that it can be difficult to identify buses in some lights. Older buses with the orange destination screens on the front are the most difficult to see. Our newer buses with the white destination screens are brighter, easier to read and see from a distance.
Work has been ongoing to develop a solution to improve the visibility of the buses.
Four-month trial
From 24 April, four buses with the orange destination screens were put on two routes with a large bright yellow strip above the windscreen.
This is a four-month trial to allow us to gather your feedback on whether this yellow strip improves the visibility of the bus.
The bus routes are Route 3 (Airport or Sheffield Crescent to Sumner) and Route 28 (Casebrook to Lyttelton).
Please give us your feedback by completing the below survey.
You can also complete a hard copy of the survey and drop it into the Bus Interchange or Riccarton Lounge.
