Join a Biosecurity Advisory Group

Passionate about pest management? Keen to be a local champion for biosecurity issues in your area? Applications to join one of our four Biosecurity Advisory Groups (North, Central, Christchurch/Banks Peninsula and South) are open until Monday 23 January 2023.

What you will be doing

Biosecurity Advisory Groups work with us to effectively manage plant and animal pests across the region. They actively support the objectives of our Regional Pest Management programme.

When and where you will meet

All members meet in person three to four times per year, as well as for occasional online meetings and field trips. In-person meetings are open to the public. The meeting venue will move around the Biosecurity Advisory Group area throughout the term.

What we are looking for

Anyone with an interest in biosecurity issues can apply, and members are selected and appointed by Environment Canterbury’s councillors. We’re looking for people across the region, with the following attributes:

  • a broad and balanced range of interests relating to biosecurity
  • pest management and/or biodiversity knowledge and experience
  • links with local communities
  • ability to work collaboratively
  • ability to operate using a solution-based and future-focused approach.
