Christchurch and Banks Peninsula Biodiversity Fund
The Christchurch and Banks Peninsula Biodiversity Fund support long-term projects that align with the biodiversity actions and outcomes in our 2024–34 Long-Term Plan, which includes restoring and protection priority ecosystems.
For 2025/26, $300,000 is available for new community-led initiatives. You can apply for a minimum of $30,000 per year, with a maximum of $100,000 per application per year.
This work is supported by a targeted rate on Christchurch district properties, providing a 10-year, $10 million investment in landscape-scale biodiversity outcomes. The targeted rate enables us to work alongside communities and local groups to protect and enhance indigenous biodiversity across freshwater, coastal, and terrestrial environments.
Eligible projects must take place within Ōtautahi Christchurch or Te Pātaka o Rakaihautū Banks Peninsula.
The fund is open to landowners, rūnanga, community groups, and trusts working to improve biodiversity on public or private land.
Applications close: 11.59pm, Sunday 15 February 2026.
